Sometimes it tastes metallic or has a strange smell — like that of plastic. There are two main reasons for tap water tasting like hose water. If you leave your garden hose pressurized, the water might flow back and forth as pressure changes during the day.
The water then picks up the flavor of the plasticizer from the PVC material in the hose and this gives it the plasticky taste. Another possible reason for tap water tasting like hose water is the corrosion of plastic plumbing in the house. Hose water is not the same as tap water. Even though they both have the same source, hose water will typically have a different taste. The materials used in manufacturing hoses is mostly PVC and it contains chemicals like phthalates which are likely to leak into the water.
When consumed, these chemicals are likely to cause health problems like cancer and kidney failure. Even there is some risk of contamination in tap water, the risk is on another level in hose water. You can get away with drinking tap water but it is not advisable to drink hose water. You should not consume water that has any smell or taste associated with Plastic. Water that tastes plasticky is contaminated with chemicals used in making plastics and is therefore unsafe for human consumption.
According to The National Institute of Health , consumption of phthalates a common component in plastics can be linked to an increased risk of leukemia, bladder cancer, and testicular cancer. As we have seen, hoses are made of materials like rubber, silicone, and plastics. These materials contain harmful chemicals and metals that can leak into the water thereby causing any number of health complications.
Additionally, bacteria, mold, and possibly even parasites can easily grow in hoses due to the stagnant water and hot temperatures. These pathogens and parasites can cause gastrointestinal illness worse health problems like cancer. I know there's topics on the taste of water.
I've read many of them. I'm not sure I'm encountering the same thing I dewinterized a month ago and have been living in the unit for a month. I had AF in the lines. As part of the process, I sanitized everything bleached water sat in lines for several hours and flushed several times. I'm hooked up to campground water. If I let it run long enough to flush the lines, the water is fine. However if it sits for several hours, the water tastes like it's been sitting in a garden hose.
I can only assume that the hose on the reel which came with the unit and I assume is for potable water is leeching. It literally tastes just like the water I used to drink out of the garden hose as a kid. I don't think it's the result of the pex lines in the unit not having been treated well enough -- but I could be wrong.
Maybe the AF residue tastes the same. I'm happy to try that but it feels like a hose issue. Is water that's been sitting in the potable water hoses we all use supposed to taste like hose if the water has been sitting in it long enough? Do I need to replace the hose on the reel? My ice from the ice maker is making my drinks tastes like garden hose :- Thanks! RV specs in sig. Join iRV2. Any other cartridge filters in the coach plumbing that might need to be changed?
Changing the hose would be an esay way to know if it's the hose. I would call CS at Newmar and see if they have a reason why this is happening. Might be the pex lines. If the taste goes away then you've pretty well established that the hose is indeed the culprit and it's time to replace it. I am also inclinded to blame the hose. Many do and not many knwo how to install them Option 1: installed in the RV..
And you now have what they have. Option 3: Flush that hose well. That is actually how I do it now days for other reasons. Got used to doing that in South Carolina where the chlorine level was a bit.. High Water tastes like bleach even after the charcoal filter.
That's way too mcuh bleach so I fill the tank and let it dissipate does not take long I also re-filter drinking water using a PUR. WOrks great. Advantage This may not apply to you I live in 2 campgrounds in teh summer, Different water systems, and 2 mroe in teh winter, same system I tank up at ONE park that way I'm not always adjusting to a different well.
How much difference does this make.. Last Halloween, well the day before, I took on 80 gallons and then headed South. According to studies that were conducted results found toxins. These toxic chemicals include:. To assure you, it is safe to drink water from the hose after it has been running for a while to give the plants a needed drink.
You should know the source of any water before you start drinking from it. But, the water from a hose is generally not safe to drink. That water is meant for plants that have different dietary needs. Those who are not affected by drinking water from a hose are animals, pets, and young children. Livestock ex: cows, horses need to drink water from hoses to keep hydrated. One never knows if the garden hose is contaminated. Water might react with the material of the hose based on any rust issues that you could have in the plumbing system.
We are glad that you asked. There are three things in effect from drinking from hose water and we will explain the reasons behind each of them. Health plays a substantial in the risk factor of drinking water from a hose. Drinking dirty water makes you sick. Diarrhea, vomiting, and upset stomach are all risks to health.
